annamaira,
I started pulling my hair in middle school, and it
got really bad in high school. I've done it off
and off and on since. I had no idea I had
a problem, and still didn't know I had a problem
or that it WAS a problem until about a year ago
when I read about it here.My hair pulling seems to come about during times of
excessive stress or boredom. I've hardly pulled
my hair at all since I've been on Wellbutrin. I've
never taken the medications your daughter is on.
I'm on the Wellbutrin for chronic depression/major
depressive episode; not pulling my hair happens to
be a great plus. One note about trichotillomania -- it isn't confined
to pulling just the hair on your head. People can
also pull out their eyebrows, lashes, arm or leg hair,
and yes, even pubic hair. The only hair pulling I've done lately is pull those
darn bright shiny gray ones in front. ~grins~Good luck,
janey girl

I have never pulled my hair out, but have had another nervous habit for many many years. I pick at my scalp and face. This would come and go a lot, but lately it has gotten really bad. I can't keep my hands away from my head and face. I wonder if it is exacerbated by my meds. Any ideas?

I don't have any experience with Luvox or Anafranil but my daughter also pulled out her hair until lately. She takes BuSpar for her anxiety and anxiety-stimulated behavior. She has stopped pulling out her hair, washing her hands contsantly, brushing her teeth 30x a day ect.. since the 4th week on the BuSpar.
This past weekend her Great-Grandma had a surprise 80th birthday party and my daughter didn't have her meds since friday night. By Sunday night her hands were absolutely raw from washing them and she was pulling out her hair again. I was not pleased with the grandparents not giving her the meds but tried not get too riled up because it was a special occasion. Anyway, I didn't think the meds would wear off that quickly so I don't know if the stress caused a relapse or missing the meds did. Since her second of the missed pills she has stopped though.
Well, Good luck to you and your daughter. My only experience with anything that has worked for Trich is the BuSpar.
