Please respond

I've been around for a while, but have never had the nerve to "tell all"

I have severe fibroymalgia/chronic fatigue for 3 years. I had been on minimum dose Prozac for 10 + years prior to that. I've tried most SSRI's and a lot of tricy. On a lot of medication I have an "opposite" reaction.

For the past year I have been on Prozac -80mg (to stop crying) , Wellbutrin 300mg (?) and Ritilan-60mg (to cut through the fog) I also take about 3-4 Tylenol #4's for the pain. I also take .0125 Synthroid and Climara and a multivitamin. I give myself B12/folic acid shots weekly. But there have been no new meds introduced in a long , longtime.

I am under the care of a MD, pain specialist, and psychiatrist.

HELP......For the past 2 months I have had this intense metalic taste in my mouth that is driving me crazy. And my medications have reduced their effectiveness. I am also having a feverish feeling, but no high temperature, although the malaise is overwhelming.

The doctors are stumped. Other than high Mono% count and low RBC my blood work comes out within range.

I could really use some ideas. I can't even find anything doing web searches either. So even if I get a handle on the pain, the malaise, feverish feeling and horrible taste in my mouth is making my life miserable.

Any idea for testing or direction on what to look for would be so appreciated. I have gained so much insight from this site and hopefully I can give a fresh perspective to my doctors.

Thanks so much. This board has been such a blessing to me.

I'm sorry to hear you are so unhappy, but you are in good company here.

The first thing that struck me is the massive doses of psychaitric medications you are on. 80mg of Prozac is a large-ish dose, add on top of that 300mg of Wellbutrin and then Ritalin.

Then you are on Codeine, which usually can cause depression or at least "fogginess" when used chronically.
Then there's the synthroid -- do you have hypothyroidism, or on it as an adjunct for depression. Have you had your thyroid levels checked recently?

I would start by making sure your thyroid functioning is normal. If it is, then I am going to assume you need the chronic use of narcotics and can't do too much about that.
I think being on two high-dose AD's (and the fact that other SSRI's and TCA's haven't worked well in the past) means you may want to discuss lowering the dose of Prozac and maybe trying a mood stabilizer with an AD for the "malaise"/mood.
It sounds like they are beating a dead horse with antidepressants.
And I personally think being on Ritalin long-term is more harmful than helpful, especially since Wellbutrin also increases dopamine neurotransmission.

In other words, you are on a lot of drugs that interact with each other. I think the goal should be to lower and/or get rid of some of these drugs, and find drugs that work better for you (so you don't have to take maximum doses of two AD's to get any type of response).

I hope this helps, and I wish you the best of luck.
