Dr. Bob - COMPUTER MONITORS

Posted by dana on June 24, 2001, at 3:42:34

Now for something completely different !! I have recently discovered that my 19" Monitor pulsates and shimmers. As I use computers many hours a day in my line of work as a Graphic Artist/Draftswoman....it has become so annoying to have to DEGAUSS every half an hour or so which sometimes clears it up for a short while. There is not obvious source of interference so we have concluded it is a LEMON !...I will be getting a REPLACEMENT next week.......

but the point I was going to make was that recently I had found myself getting extremely AGITATED and NERVY whenever working at the computer. I was noticing my levels of agitation and foot shaking and tapping were increasing lately, and it was only when I made the 'possible' connection to my monitor that I did an experiment and worked on another computer that had a 'stable' monitor, for many hours, and had no episodes of agitation.......I am a PANIC/ANXIETY sufferer.

Could it be possible that computer monitors if not stable could cause reactions like this.....and if with me, then perhaps with others ??

Any thoughts Dr. Bob? anyone ??

I have TLE. .& your post almost makes me think of seizure activity. Temporal Lobe seizures can be set off by flicker and shimmer. . .and anyone, really, can have a seizure. Some meds do seem to predispose one. . .

My TLE is well-controlled by Neurontin. . but still get "funny" spells at certain light effects. . .

Hope this helps,
Zo

.. I never thought of that ! ...... I responded to the shimmer more as an annoyance, as it seems to make me feel a bit 'sea-sick' and to counteract the movement, my foot would start tapping which seemed to help stave off the feelings......... my husband said the same thing after working on it for a while......he is not on any meds....and I finished about 8 weeks ago. The funny thing is that my husband, whenever we drive through the major tunnel in our City, he can't handle the lights on the roof of the tunnel....as they flick over head as we pass under them... !!

thanks for that.......I think you have cleared it up !
Dana
