effexor and food?

Posted by utopizen on November 19, 2002, at 10:17:31

Hey,

I couldn't find the FDA thing that generally goes over the technical aspects of a drug, so does anyone know if Effexor XR is less metabolized with food?

I don't have stomach problems when I take it without food, so I just want to make sure there's not an absorption issue that is behind the "take with food" label.

I don't believe food affects the absorption, after reading extensively in my med book. Although it says to take with food, it appears that, as you suspected, that the caution relates to the high incidence of GI effects from the med. My source does state that Effexor "may be taken without regard to food" and does not list food under the nutritional/ethanol interactions category.

Hope this helps!

i had major problems when i was taking effexor xr, i believe, the take with food label is due to the fact that it supresses your appitite. I lost about 30lbs in two months on this medication, and also had alot of bowel problems. i'm sure this med doesn't effect every one this way, but i had to stop taking it.
good luck

well,

it's 3PM and I still haven't eaten anything since my croissant and two Samanatha smoothies at 7AM. Now, in a normal male college student, hunger is expressed at this point in the brain... of course, I'm an ADD kid, so that means I'm on 20mg of Adderall (formerly "Obetrol" in the 60's, back when it was a diet drug).

Well, I'll try to remind myself not to make jokes anymore about the prevalance of female anorexics on my campus...
