I have been on Wellbutrin for 8 days. Today I increased the dosage to 300mg. My speech has been a little slurred and my tongue feels fat and heavy. Also, my ears feel like they are plugged. I have been consuming about 3 - 4 glasses of wine nightly and I was wondering if anyone has any problems with the alcohol and wellbutrin?

I had the same "plugged ears" (and stuffy head) feeling when I was on Wellbutrin -- it lasted for the two months that I took it and stopped as soon as I went off it. Wellbutrin had quite a few strange side effects for me, whether I drank any alcohol or not.

I had a stuffy nose and plugged ears after only about a week on Wellbutrin 150mg once a day. I also had gut rot. The most disturbing effect of all, was what I guess would be described as a motorskill issue - as I was impaired in certain ways. For instance, I would go to touch something but I couldn't move my arm right away. A delayed reaction of a few seconds would bring my hand to where it was sent, but not immediately. Very strange. Made me nervous.
The plus was that it was a TOTAL aphrodisiac. Didn't sit well with me overall though, not a good anti-depressant I feel.

Hi Tyler -
Most important part is below on antipsychotic drugs (wellbutrin is not one of them)
Wellbutrin itself is not likely to cause a abnormal movement - unless you have a prexisting movement disorder or seizure problem, or are using polypharmacy.
I don't know if fat tongue can be caused by Wellbutrin. But I do know that acute and chronic drug induced movements / movements disorders can cause 'fat tongue', tongue movements, and movements abnormal of all kinds and varieties.
QUESTION: Have you *ever* taken an antipsychotic drug? (ie; zyprexa, risperidone, haldol, etc). If so, what and how long.
With FEW exceptions, ONLY antypsychotics CAUSE involuntary abnormal movements - barring an actual heriditary movement disorder which you have anyway.
I have had amisulpride induced movement disorders, later aggrevated by Zyprexa.
Regarding Dr's - don't expect a Dr. to be honest with you - my experience over 1 year with many and subsequent opinion based on myself and what I've discussed is that most psychiatrists WILL COVER UP ANTIPSYCHOTIC DRUG INDUCED MOVEMENT DISORDERS.
If you have an antipsychotic drug induced movement disorder your only ally is likely to be a lawyer who routinely handles these cases. If you have this problem I recommend a lawyer consult which can be had for free. A/P drug induced movement disorders - I learned the hard way - no matter what you know - the patient loses to the Dr. who can get away with anything regarding records.
That is my experience and opinion. Good luck. Write me if you want at my website.

Hi Tyler - one last thing
I forgot to mention.
If you have any history of antipsychotic use - then wellbutrin (or many drugs) - may AGGREVATE the problem - so the fat tongue and movements occur - these are not due to the wellbutrin and other drugs per se - but rather to the BRAIN DAMAGE done by the antipsychotic which makes you vulerable to reactions and results in drug intolerance.
I have sort of jumped the gun here because you may NEVER have taken an antipsychotic. If so - I would report the problem to your Dr - he will not likely BS you if he has not done anything negligent. You may simply be having an unusual reaction to wellbutrin based on your genetics.
Reglan is another culprit (similar to anitpsychotic)
Also illegal drugs like cocaine, can occionally can cause movement disorders.
This is the end of the thread.
