hi -- i've been taking low-dose mirapex for a few months for "restless legs syndrome" and also take an AD. i noticed a reduction in anxiety almost immediately and that benefit, although somewhat modest, has persisted to this day. it's not as beneficial for anxiety as a benzo, which i also take, with most of the benzo dosage in the evening. the primary side effects i've noticed from mirapex are drowsiness, fatigue, and sedation.....these are all quite common for this drug. it stimulates the D2 and D3 receptors and is relatively inactive at other brain receptors-- exactly why that makes people tired is beyond my scope of understanding. i'm taking the lowest strength tablet, .0125 mg, three times a day. patients with parkinson's can take up to 10 times that amount per day -- at that dose, and lower doses as well, there have been numerous reports of patients having sudden "sleep attacks" and nodding off while conducting the tasks of everyday living -- quite a few car wrecks have been caused by this phenomenon and there's a warning in the packing materials about it.
if you are trying to escape the drowsy, unmotivated mood you describe, i'm not sure if mirapex is the drug for you, though you can certainly try it. it's possible that it won't make you tired and sluggish at all. as i mentioned, it has provided me with some anxiety relief and that in turn has improved my mood just a bit. it isn't "activating" or 'energizing" for most people though, if you're looking for a boost of that type.

I'm on mirapex .25mg X 3 daily and wellbutrin sr 150mg a day. Since starting the mirapex (and stopping lexapro) about 6 weeks ago I've noticiced that I'm doing more things that I have'nt done in a long time. It seems to make me more outgoing, assertive and talkative. I also take 20mg ritalin when needed usually for sleepiness. So I can't really tell how drowsy the mirapex makes me. I think mirapex is a good drug!

Thanks for that post. That is a novel idea for dopaminergic stimulation. I have wondered if mirapex could be used somehow for mood disorders and it seems you have found a new and novel combo - when I read the original post I wondered about provigil + mirapex but I like your idea better!
