I'm wondering if anyone knows how long lexapro withdrawal lasts. I've seen posts about it, but no one has said when it ended. I gradually decreased my doses, and took the last pill 2 weeks ago. I've been very depressed since, and am wondering how much of the depression is just withdrawal. The dizzyness and electric shock feeling has gone away, but the depression remains. Today I got desperate and started on strattera. I don't want to confuse the end of withdrawal with the strattera working.

Rachel, Both diziness ans electric shocks are common side effects when withdrawing from many of the antidepressants. But I don't think that feeling depressed is a withdrawal side effect. I think it indicates that you need to keep taking an antidepressant.

I'd say two weeks is about the time it takes until all the physical withdrawal goes away. BUT, with most antidepressants, and with Lexapro from my experience, there IS a rebound depression that can be worse than the initial depression you were treating. Hope this helps.

Thanks, everyone. Does the rebound depression go away after the 2weeks, or does that last longer?

Hey. i hate to be discouraging, but i would want truth above deceptive optimism. But yeah, i think rebound depression from SSRI withdrawal can last a f**k of a long time-- alot longer than most professionals are aware of. i've been off Paxil for 3 months (after about 2 years being on) and still feel like death. i honestly don't know if Strattera would be helpful for you right now. With Lex. w/drawal, you're probably feeling an underactive serotonin system, and Strattera is not going to improve that at all (unless indirectly, but i doubt it). Maybe reinitiating low-dose Lexapro and gradually tapering more slowly, or taking some good-dose St. John's Wort might help. i don't know, but i hope it all works out well for you.
