Are there any alternatives to medication treatment for ocd and anxiety?
I have ocd/anxiety in very visceral, deep-seeded ways. Untreated, if I view a news story about somthing unsettling, or if it has disturbing (bloody) pictures, I feel utter terror, the kind you would feel only if your life was in danger.
Living with this was horrid, and being treated makes my life better. BUT the side effects, having no attention span, loss of passion, etc., are also terrible.
Is there a way I can treat this without meds?

Ongoing studies suggest St. Johns wort may be
as effetive as SSRI's in the treatment of OCD.The standard treatment is 300 mg 3X per day
Its worth a try as it has relativly few side effects. I found it did not disturb my emotion at all.
Good Luck in your quest

Link,
have you seen any studies about OCD and
st. john's wort? i'd like something i could show to a psychiatrist.have you ever worked with a psych.doc with these 'natural' methods? i'm thinking of having one help me taper off zoloft, and then try st. john's wort, with maybe an rx for something else 'just in case.'

You probably want to get some good cognitive-behavioral therapy while youre on a medication that's helping you. The therapy should be much easier this way and can have more long-lasting results than the med alone.

i am in therapy, but as i'm on meds, i don't really experience the level of symptoms. i guess i wonder if this type of ocd is mostly a physiological issue -- and if therapy/behavior modification can strengthen the cingulate part of the brain that's involved.
i guess i feel like it's hard to deal with the issue when it's like i don't _feel_ the ocd due to the meds.
thanks for your suggestion.

A high dose of omega-3 fish oil might help.I report on several successful cases in www.omega3.20megsfree.com.
