Is it bad to open your dexedrine sr before taking. I have read that it is ok with adderall xr as long as you don't crush the beads, but I can't find anything on dexedrine spansule/sr.
Thanks for any info.

> BlondegirlHi, BG... The capsule that contains the beads is just gelatin, like any other capsule. It is inert, and does nothing but contain the "tiny time pills" (like Contac in the 70's). None of the contents have any effect until the gelatin dissolves in your stomach, so opening it would have no effect at all.. except *maybe* accelerate onset by a minute or two. Now, chewing/crushing contents would be a different story.. may as well just take tablets rather than spansules that way.
Just curious- why bother opening them?? ..and why dexedrine?? I've taken it for years, in fact, I found you post doing another mindless search on it for fun and to kill time waiting for a d/l.

Thanks for your reply Q. A faster kick in time was what I was looking for. I was on Adderallxr for my slow release before and it was too drying I was getting so dry I couldn't get my pills down.
Adderallxr would also stop working about 5 hours after I took it. The dexedrine spansules seem to last about 8 hours. I take 12.5 mg of adderall with my 2, 15 mg sr. Mid afternoon I take 25 mg of adderall which get me through most of the early evening stuff if I don't eat too much. I wish my insurance would pay for the name brand, I have heard it is much better than generic.

Oh, Cool... Ya know, if you're looking for faster onset, you can chew the innards of the caps... if you crush the little beads, no more SR (sustained release). However, they don't last 8 hours anymore that way... so why not take tabs?? The little 5 mg dexedrine tabs (the lovely little orange triangles) are so convenient... they only last ~3.5 hours or so, but they kick in fast, and you can control duration by subsequent doses. A little inconvenient, and easy to forget.. so you can end up sluggish before you want, and find it's late in the day for more... where the "Spansules" take care of all that.I've never tried adderall, but I've taken Dexedrine in it's various forms for years 'n years. If that's what you're referring to about brand name vs. generic, all I know is the generic TABLETS are really hard to break, where the SKF (brand) ones are easy-to-break scored triangles. I don't know if there's a generic sustained release form, I've only ever gotten brand. I take just one 5mg spansule in the morning, as needed (I guzzle coffee sometimes too), or just eat a piece of a tablet a few times a day. When I was younger, I was up to much higher doses, but I find now if I keep from taking much over 5 mg per day, and skip weekends and such, my tolerance stays way down, so I get plenty of effect. A little caffeine helps "re-activate" if needed.
Anyway.. stimulants make me type too much :-)
Like I said, just did a google search on Dexedrine for fun, and found your post... registered just to reply! I didn't know there was really a lot of people taking dexedrine. It's always hard to find a Doc that'll write it ('specially here in CA), it seems everyone takes the newer stuff now... Not me, gimme dexedrine!
I'd love to hear more about your experinece w/ it!

Hi Q
I tried generic 5 mg tablet dexedrine and it made me very cranky and all I did was yawn.
I used to take dextrostat(brand name) 10 to 15 mg at a time. It worked well but was hard on my tummy so I had to take it with food which lowered the absorption.Caffeine might give you a little zing, but it will make your medication go away faster because it makes your urine more acidic, which causes you to lose more medication in your urine. I am not explaining it very well, but if you do a seach on food + Adderall or on medication and acidic foods you will find a lot of good info.
I don't think I will crush the beads, my heart races enough as it is with this stuff, no need to give myself a heart attack. Besides if I get too speedy, I will end up typing too much too :)
Welcome aboard this is a great site.

> I was reading your above post. It's nice to hear from someone else that it is hard to find a doc in CA to give this "Dexedrine". I was taken it for awhile and it really works and I drink coffee when I seem to wine down. I live in CA and I don't know where to go to get it because alot of doc are scared losing there license due to "Elvis" being on this stuff and other meds and it is really hard to get. I hear this story from so many people saying it was "Elvis fault with all the meds and the fast food that killed him". The other stuff don't work as good as the real thing which for me is "Dexedrine Spansule". Do you know where to get it with/or without px.Lisa

Just a reminder, please don't use this site to exchange information that could be used to import into the US prescription medication without a prescription:
