I was wondering if anyone experienced hair loss with topomax. I was taking both topomax and zyprexa and my hair began falling out. I know the zyprexa can cause that but I was wanting to go back on the topomax by itself and am hesitant. Anyone have the hair loss with topomax alone?

Never mind! I just did a bit of searching in the archives and found that the culprit could very well be Topomax. I think I will not go back on it now. I'm not sure what I will do, since the trileptal I am on is making me very anxious -- smoking increased and weight gain -- I might try nothing for a while. My bipolar isn't very severe and I think the cure might be worse than the disorder.

perhaps do some more research in the archives and try the recommended doses of selenium and zinc to help combat the hair loss? i don't have them handy or i'd tell you what they were...a bit higher than the RDA if i remember correctly. then give it another hair growth cycle (typically 3 months?) and see if things haven't greatly improved for you. i had been having problems with hair loss from another drug and that's what i did. now that's what i'm doing to be able to keep taking topamax. my appearance doesn't matter much to me if i feel tortured and insane, but that's just my opinion (also that hair loss wasn't that extreme). good luck to you!

Thanks for the input. I was really kind of down about not being able to take the Topomax. I'll wait a while and see what happens. My hair is coming in now and I would hate to see it start thinning right away. I take 50mg zinc and 50 mg selenium along with Biotin and lots of protein. It seems to work. Thanks again.
