Hi
i have taken myself off of Effexor 10days ago and went straight onto Prozac. I am experiencing terrible tummy and flu like symptoms...the stomach problem is the worse ever...is this a side effect of withdrawal?
Thanks

Withdrawal from effexor can make me sicker than the worst hangover.
Good Luck

Did you taper the Effexor? Yes it can cause some pretty nasty withdrawal symptoms. Doctor never told me anything about the withdrawal or tapering and the first time I tried to come off of it I couldn't (extreme dizziness). Waited a few months and stopped cold turkey with no problems. Go figure...good luck

I had some of the same symptoms. It felt like flu / hangover all at once. It was horrible, and that was with tapering, except that I was tapering too fast. I had to do it very slowly, with the smallest increments (37.5 mg) I could. I went from the XR to the regular effexor, and cut the tablets.
Good luck.
Dee.

Hi skp, when I went on Prozac after Effexor I had some tummy upset too...it was a side effect of the Prozac and I probably would have gotten it regardless of going off the Effexor.
Try some Benadryl for the flu-like symptoms. If the tummy upset doesn't go away soon, the Prozac might be intolerable for you. Hang on...the worst should be over soon!
