I suffered a major trauma in mid-September. I’ve got what is called severe reactive depression.
I started on Lexapro over a month ago. I’m very sensitive to meds so I started on a 2.5 mg. dose. I am following a strange pattern. I take the dose. Feel good the day after and one more day. Then I feel bad again. My pdoc tells me to increase the dose. I do. I feel good for two days then bad again. As of five days ago, I was up to 15mg. Felt good for two days, terrible yesterday and today. I’m getting ready to give up on this stuff.
I took Prozac years ago. After waiting the three weeks I felt fine. None of these ups and downs. My pdoc thought Lexapro would be better for me.
I usually cycle between x-hours of anxiety and then x-hours of depression. Today was an entirely new feeling. It was a combo of both anxiety and depression at the same time. I can’t describe it but it was awful. I don’t know what to do.
I also seem to urinate a lot more then I ever did. I think I read on another post that Lexapro dehydrates you. Is this correct.
PLEASE help!

I am having extreme fatigue on this medication. I can agree that I had less s/e from Prozac than this medication. I feel jittery too, but I think it's because I added wellbutrin to this mix.
If I were you, I would just stay at a certain dose for at least a month. Your body may be just trying to adjust. Hopefully, you will eventually have more better days. I still get anxious and depressed on this med. too. I felt prozac was more numbing for me. I would definately drink more fluids if I were urinating more often.
I have felt this medication is allowing me to be more calm and see situations more clearly. Are you experiencing that? If so, it may explain why you are still feeling things. After all, you have experienced a trauma. You are still going to feel things about it. No medication is going to totally get rid of the pain. The medication is there to help you not bottom out as much. If you are not feeling this effect after a month, then I would tell the doc. Some folks, don't have a good effect from this medication untill they are on 20 mgs. You may not have had the right dosage yet. Also, it takes time to adjust to the right dosage. I suffer from Ptsd, so I can identify with trauma. I hope you feel better really soon. I know how frustrating this is. I too am still adjusting to being on this Lexapro. I think sometimes I fight medication too.
