I have had bad experiances with some doc's and I have been suffering from social anxiety and depression for most of my 31 years. I have taken everything from paxil to lithium. Now I am taking effexor and xanax. But I am still having ups and downs with my depression. I was never diagnosed with manic dep or anything, but why am I suddenly feeling good for a while and now very low.........

Perhaps you aint been proply diagnosed? maybe you have some kind of a bioplar? i hates effexor uchy vee... have you seen a phsyciatrist?

Why Effexor? Proprer treatments for social anxiety/phobia are: Klonopin, Xanax (XR), Nardil, Parnate, Paxil (slightly).

HI Ann,
I tried Effexor for SA and it seemed to help. But it definitely didn't correct the imbalance in my brain. I tried Geodon after I was diagnosed with BPII (finally) and it has worked like a charm. I eventually stopped taking the Effexor and very glad I did. Geodon is working better alone than when I combined it with the Effexor.
I think you may be BPII...read up on it and see if the shoe fits...it is the most misdiagnosed disease out there and unipolar meds are so bad for us Beepers.
