Ace,
Yep, the subject line says it all.
I've been under a lot of stress with school (taking dental boards to get licensed...stress). To make a long story short, I'm having a relapse in depressive symptoms.
I had a real good initial response to Parnate, but got pulled off it because I was getting hypertensive episodes (spontaneous, not food induced).
So now the situation warrants pulling out the big guns - NARDIL, haha.
Questions for you:
1. Is it still working? I hear the new formulation sucks.
2. Is my thinking going to be impaired? I need to be able to be motivated and to concentrate.
3. Food - can you eat Asian foods? Living in NYC, I have some Asian friends that may get offended if I don't eat with them.I'll think of more later. I'm pretty excited to try this "wonder drug".
Peace,
Matt

People who have switched from old to new seem to have a lot of probs, but your NOT SWITCHING, so i think it should be OK. The way some people are going at it, the old Nardil will return soon, I'm sure- they are fighting like brave tigers!
> 2. Is my thinking going to be impaired? I need to be able to be motivated and to concentrate.
Initiall there is around a 20% chance of cognitive dysfunction. this figure I have gleaned from my studies. the good news is it almost always goes within a few weeks.
> 3. Food - can you eat Asian foods? Living in NYC, I have some Asian friends that may get offended if I don't eat with them.
you can, but will have to be more specific ...i eat chinese a few weeks back at the folks...no probs!

Ace,
Thanks for the tips bud. I'll be thinking of some more as they arise.
>>Congratulations on the career. Ive mentioned I'm going to be a psychopharmacologist?
Cool, I can see why you chose that route, with the dramatic changes psychopharm has made on your life. Best of luck to you!
I'm not in a terrible state right now. Klonopin kills any anxiety, and all the CBT I've had helps a ton. Right now, with as busy as I've been I don't have much time to do anything else to "self-help" besides taking a friggin' pill! I have no qualms with that, BTW, if Nardil works for me.
But depression is insidious in onset for me (for most), so I want to "nip it in the bud". I don't want to let it spiral like I did 3 years ago. I'm going to use everything available.
Enough rambling.
Now it's time for Nardil questions of the day:
1. Can one do rigorous exercise while taking an MAOI? I know there are some pretty serious quantities of systemic epinephrine / norepinephrine being released while exercising. Maybe the "other" MAO, COMT (catechol-0-methyl transferase) would mop it up. I've never heard of exercise being contraindicated, but it just kinda scares me.
2. The dreaded orthostatic hypotension. A few questions about your experience with this. Most likely this is dose-dependent, but for you, at what dose does it start? Did it go away for you with continued use?
3. Sexual stuff. How would Nardil anorgasmia (male) compare to SSRI anorgasmia. Do you have any experience with the SSRI's? Man, Parnate was pleasantly pro-sexual, too bad Nardil doesn't share that same quality. If it did, you would likely see fast food chains with "Nardil-friendly" menus, with all the men that would take it.
Thanks in advance man. I'll keep you updated on how it goes.
Staring at that little bottle of orange pills has a pretty strong placebo effect, with all the positive success stories of it! I'd be thrilled if I got 50% the efficacy that you have from it.
Take care fellow Nardil "mate".
Matt

I have heard of one person who fainted when doing intensive excercise on Nardil. Hpwever, this is very rare Matt. I have pushed myself to extremes and have had no problem whatsoever. I wouls say go for it but monitor vitals if there is any change in physical state. But again, go for it- i wouldn't worry.

> 2. The dreaded orthostatic hypotension. A few questions about your experience with this. Most likely this is dose-dependent, but for you, at what dose does it start?Another thing which is greatly variable from one user to the next. Matt, to be honest, I only experienced it a couple of times when I first went up to 90mg. Since then, even at 120mg, I have no OH. Actually when I experienced it, it was kinda fun! Not scary at all. A few do suffer this, but you maybe free of it.
Did it go away for you with continued use?
As stated, I never really had it. But for some it does go away, for others it is fairly constant.
> 3. Sexual stuff. How would Nardil anorgasmia (male) compare to SSRI anorgasmia. Do you have any experience with the SSRI's?Yes, Zoloft in particular. Unfortunately I believe anorgasmia is much more prominent with Nardil than with SSRIs. And, it can be very constant.
Man, Parnate was pleasantly pro-sexual, too bad Nardil doesn't share that same quality.
At first it did! And when i went back on it once it was unbelievable...I was that sexual!. Now my sex drive is very much down, and, unfortunatley, with my new girlfriend, I am no able to orgasm. But she is very understanding.
Matt, I must mention, there is antidotes to Nardil anorgasmia- cyproheptadine, bethanechol and more. Be careful with the first. Furthermore, you might not experience it or it might be very transient for you. Hopefull it will be pro-sexual for you, as it is in a very small minority.
If it did, you would likely see fast food chains with "Nardil-friendly" menus, with all the men that would take it.
Ha Ha Ha!!! You are right there bro!!
