Hi All, I am new here, this is my 1st post. I have atypical depression(I think)& I am on 150mg Effexor XR + 15mg Remeron. Effexor is helping my depression but I can't go any higher because it makes me too sick. Remeron seems to counteract some of the Effexor side effects + it seems to have fixed my hypersomnia, but I can't increase it either as it makes me cranky & irriatble. What I lack now is motivation, so has anyone tried combining Effexor with something like Nortripyline?

I'm on 150mg Efexor-XR + 15mg Remeron & I am struggling with a lack of energy. Would swapping Remeron for Nortiptyline be a good idea or bad.
TIA,
Panda.

>I think you should first explore increasing the dosage of Effexor to 300mg if you haven't already. In addition, I don't think Remeron is adequately explored until one gets to a minimum of 45 mg. Combining Effexor with nortriptyline is an excellent idea. It helped me. The trick with nortriptyline is that you must get the dosage just right. Too high is as bad as too low. Be sure to test your blood levels in the beginning to fine tune it.
Good luck.

> - ScottHi Scott, thanks for the reply :) Increasing the Remeron for me makes me very cranky & irritable. I've tried increasing the Efexor but it gives me bad anxiety & a general feeling of illness. Right now I am as happy as I have ever been but I have zero motivation & energy to do anything. I am the ultimate procrastinator, I can put anything off forever. I'd like to try Reboxetine, but it's hard to find anyone who has a nice thing to say about it. Nortriptyline looks like something that I could replace Remeron with & maybe add some energy.
Cheers,
Panda.

A good combination for me was EffexorXR and WellbutrinSR. The EffexorXR gave me the motivation and the WellbutrinSR gave me energy. There was quite a difference in the Wellbutrin vs WellbutrinSR. It was as if it were a different drug altogether.
When it started to wane and I couldn't stand the side effects of EffexorXR such as sweating and having a hard time starting to urinate, I switched. Now it's Lexapro. Best I've felt, ever.
(300 mg WellbutrinSR + 20 mg Lexapro = a very blessed young lady)Best wishes,
starduster

I'd would like to try Wellbutrin but I'm not allowed to have it here as an AD in Australia. I can only have it as Zyban as an aid to quitting smoking & then only one bottle full.
Cheers,
Panda.
