Is Paxil known for killing ones motivation??

Posted by SPhobia on February 19, 2004, at 3:24:03

It seems in the past few weeks that I have been taking Paxil CR that my work ethic / motivation/ ability to concentrate (whatever you want to call it) has drastically lessened. I am having a really tough time getting done what needs to get done.

Is this a side effect specific to Paxil?

Is this a side effect of all SSRI's?

It depends. What were your symptoms like prior to going on paxil? Did your depression present like this? You could be too much or too little. Depression causes concentration problems and apathy. My hunch is your having a side effect from the paxil. Sounds like SSRI induced apathy, somnolence and confusion. Talk to you doctor about what your experiencing.

I have ADD, and SSRIs worsen it DRASTICALLY. On them all I want to do is get tore up. But it seems that adding an SSRI to the Wellbutrin I'm taking is the only way to deal with my social anxiety, etc. until I get a doctor sympathetic enough to prescribe an MAOI.

hello, just wanted to say that you may want to ask your pdoc about adding a mood stablizer drug, like lamictal or zyprexa (dont like zyprexa) but it helps with the jitteryness of paxil. I have social phob. too and Ive been taking lamictal and effexor, but i'm going to the pdoc next week to ask for paxil. Also, I understand your frustration with MAOI's, my doc doesnt know enough about it to prescribe it...

Good Luck
Ann

I am experiencing the same problems - total a-motivation, no drive, no energy, hypersomnolence, you name it. I have been on Paxil CR 25mg for the past 1 1/2 years and I started to get this symptoms last September. I have been on regular Paxil in the past (mostly on 10mg); didn't have these extreme side effects.
