i'm bipolar II with mixed states and i take topamax and seroquel, augmenting with xanax for anxiety as needed. i believe the smallest dose of seroquel is 25mg, and taking it has definitely improved the quality of my sleep.

You can get 25 mg tablets. If that's too much, get a pill splitter and chop away. They'll chop into quarters without too much trouble.

When my pDoc and I first tried Seroquel for sleep, it was only 25mg and I didn't really get any benefit from it. After trying Remeron (weight gain) and Topamax (no real sleep benefit), I tried 75mg (three 25's...).
IT WORKED!
Since 100mg tabs are a better 'buy' I now take a 100mg tab each night before I go to bed. It doesn't 'knock' me out, but I do get through the night better than before. I'm also able to sleep longer than I would normally if I so desire...
It'll be interesting to see if 25mg is enough to do anything for you or not.

I am taking 25-50 mg when I need it (most nights lately!). My pdoc warned me that many people experience a rapid increase in tolerance when it is used as a sleep aid. So far (1 month) that hasn't happened to me.However, I find I take it not so much as a "sleeping pill" - it's slow acting, and I don't like the quality or duration of sleep it gives me - as a pre-sleep aid to bring me down to earth when I'm hyper (either agitated or hypomanic).
At the moment, I'm still stuck with klonopin and/or Imovane (Zopiclone, similar to Ambien) to really help get to sleep. The Imovane seems to have mostly pooped out on me after too long at 15 mg (double the normal dose), and I don't want to go to 30 mg (not that my Dr. would likely let me anyway).
BTW, I am on Lamictal 250 mg/day as my primary stabilizer/antidepressant.

I am on Lamictal 200mg and Seroquel 75mg. I started the Seroquel two years ago and have always gotten a good night sleep. If taken on an empty stomach it will work in about a half hour. If I take it on a full stomach it can take as much as two hours to work. I understand that they have fairly recently found that it works as a mood stablizer as well.
When I first started Seroquel I also found that I would wake very groggy the next day. I found that the longer I stayed on it the grogginess went away. If I make myself get up at a certain time and get myself started (even thought I would rather stay in be)I feel much better with the tiredness going away. I have never developed a tolerance to this med. Hope this helps.

Actually, Seroquel's use as a sleep aid is a result of using a 'side effect' for a desired advantage... Seroquel is an atypical antipsychotic that's PRIMARY purpose is for mood stabilization and treatment of schizophrenia. (In much larger doses...)Tony

I see that you are on Lamictal 200mg. This is my dosage as well after a slow titration up over several weeks. My Pdoc is weaning me off of Depakote as the side effects were just too much. It has worked for me but he wanted to try Lamictal, both as a mood stablizer and for depression. Have you found that this works for you?
