Please EXPLAIN my Sleep Pattern since Depression

Posted by Tony C. on July 30, 2004, at 9:20:14

Hello all, 7 years ago before I got on Serzone/Nefazodone, I fell asleep and slept about 6 solid to 7 hours a night. Then I got PTSD, and Clinical Depression + Anxiety - My insomnia was so severe, I tell you I must of slept 5 hours in 3 months, no lie. I had REM Dream interruption sleep, about as bad as you can get, images startled me every friggin time I closed my eyes. ANYHOW Serzone, squashed that, and returned me to a normal sleep pattern somewhat. THIS IS WHAT I NEED REPLIES FOR TO EXPLAIN: Please tell me why when I go to sleep, after a LONG exhausting day, do I get tired, fall asleep normal but if I awake 1 or 2 hours later I feel like a million bucks, and I ALWAYS awake from a dream now. I mean after 1 to 2 hours I awake from a dream and feel like I never needed sleep, and that I didn't. I can get right up with no cobwebs, no stiffness, etc. Man does that amaze me, I must have PERMANENTLY altered my sleep wake cycle losing my mind 7 years ago. It just makes me wonder why I feel so reved after sleep for 1 or 2 hours after a LONG HARD day ? Of course I can relax and drift back into a light sleep, I think on a good noght now I get 4 to 5 hours of fragmented dream sleep. 8 is NOT an option for me, not even 7 - It is a miracle if U stay asleep for 3 hours before I wake, even after 7 years of Serzone/Klonopin. I mean people do you have an explanation why I feel so charged after 1 or 2 hours of sleep ? I mean I can get right up and run or walk, and NEVER feel groggy or anything. Anyone else like that ?

Please let me know

Tony O.

As you metabolize Serzone it forms another drug called mCPP, this may be stimulating you. Personally, I would trade Serzone in for something better like Trazodone, Remeron or Sinequan.

Cheers,
Panda.

Hi Sad Panda. Just wanted to let you know that Trazodone also has that m-CPP (meta-chlorophenylpiperazine) metabolite. I think it may be even more significant with Trazodone.

Tell me how you got PTSD. Do you still take serzone/nef, I thought you had to stop. The trama may be your energy. It may have had a good learning experience that is easy to deal with. PTSD seems to give insomnia. Its posible you need the sleep and can't get it, you may not even know you need it. The memories seem to energise, atleast the trama part. The depression parts will rob your energy.

I take zyprexa for my PTSD. Works great! Couldn't sleep or eat without it. Helps me think much more clearly.

Hi,

That's true, but Serzone has a very short half-life of 2-4 hours which would mean that a great deal of mCPP would be formed after 2 hours and fits in with him waking after 2 hours. Trazodone has a 6-11 hour half-life which would mean mCPP levels would be raised alot later.

Cheers,
Panda.

Thanks-now I know why I got insomnia from trazadone and more recently, on serzone. Remeron is definitely the best for insomnia...although mine was not as severe as yours. Sometimes, I swear, I will nod off for a few minutes after I go to bed at night and THEN wake up and can't get back to sleep and feel like I could probably walk around the block or something. Thanks again to the other posters to this query.

I have the same sleep pattern and learned something new a few weeks ago. My lack of sleep was catching up with me about every 4 days. I would then become fatigued and depressed again. It was a very bad cycle. Short term I am using ambien to sleep. I take 10 mg every night
