Celexa vs. Lexapro

Posted by wolo on August 24, 2004, at 11:40:10

Please Help.

I'm looking for as much info on both Celexa and Lexapro. I've been battling the reality that I most likely need to go on an SSRI and can't find anything comforting about any of them. I suffer from mild anxiety/depression. I took Prozac for several years but stopped when I thought I was doing okay. I have a resurfacing of more anxiety with an undercurrent of depression now. I read that Lexapro causes insomnia/heightened anxious feelings/tiredness etc. YUCK!! I deal with that NOW!!! Any word on which may be better to start with Celexa or Lexapro!?!?!? HELP!

I suffer from similar symptoms normally. I went on Lexapro (10mg) and initially the adjustment was really hard...irritability, no insomnia thankfully, tiredness but I took my meds before bed and that worked well. The only side effects I have experienced from the Lex now that it has kicked in (and it can take 6-8 weeks) are anorgasma/loss of sex drive, and mild weight gain 5-8 pounds. For some people the sex drive comes back after some months, and I work out a lot so I know the weight gain is from the meds. It's not huge though and Lex has made me feel great otherwise.

It sounds like Prozac worked for you in the past. Why not go back on Prozac?

I have been doing reasonably well on Lexapro.

I had a terrible time on many ssri's, including paxil, zoloft, serzone and effexor. In despair I tried Lexapro. It works very well, side effects were just at the beginning, sleepiness, etc.

Now I am doing really great and I think it's fine.

For what it's worth I tried Prozac and it did nothing for me.

Hoping you find something that works for you.

warmly
