Just to talk about effexor

Posted by RubyLou on December 4, 2004, at 21:17:15

Hi. I've been researching again some of the side effects of this drug. I posted a while ago, very surprised that other people were experiencing hair loss w/ the drug. tried selenium on/off, no change. also tried a new med, but i could not get over the withdrawal symptoms enough to let it work, and the "dual action" this drug has seems to "help". But, i still see the hair loss. apparently there is a petition to tell wyeth pharmaceuticals about this misleading product.

I mean, even if i miss one day, i start getting these terrible headaches - pressure on my brain, & just feel all i can do is cry, because i feel so debilitated. and, after missing one day, i need so much extra sleep - and the dreams - good lord the dreams - they have never been so vivid!

my question, though, is does anyone else feel excessively anxious on these pills? i feel like my memory is going down-hill (it wasn't perfect before, but certainly is less so now!). and, i feel sometimes that i cannot find my words to speak. my words/thoughts come out all jumbled, and i don't know if this is a side-effect of the pills, or result of the anxiety.

Please, Ruby, you need to read the other threads on this site about Effexor. You can also read what the signers of the petition have said at www.petitiononline.com/effexor/.

Only you can decide what's best for you, but be careful if you decide to go off Effexor. The withdrawal must be carefully managed to avoid a variety of problemsm including a worsening of your depresison...That's my experience.

I can relate to what you said. I feel constantly drowsy, and blurred vision, but most just say tell your doc, however most docs dont know much about these drugs.

Should medical students have to learn more about pharmacology at med school? Personally, I think they don't learn enough. A high propotion of the knowledge of some doctors appears to come from drug reps! ..... this may be followed by inappropriate prescribing and a poor appreciation of drug toxicity. (Delusions such as 'SSRIs hardly ever cause side effects' may result from this inadequate situation.)

Opinions/Votes please!

Sorry to interrupt, but I'd like to redirect follow-ups regarding med school to Psycho-Babble Social. Here's a link:

Thanks,
