My doctor has finally given me permision to try Nardil for my SA.
Theres just the small matter of weaning of Effexor before I can try it, but never mind. What have peoples experiences been like with this drug?
In what way has it helped SA?
What are the side effects like? My biggest fear is the low blood pressure, insomnia and weight gain.

It helped me a lot for anxiety issues. But, it had no "pro-social" effect for me. I was lazy and slept a lot on it. I also had some memory and attention problems on it. So, it all comes down to "if the benefits outweigh the downsides".

Nardil was amazing for my social anxiety. It was the first med I ever tried, and it completely changed my life. It was difficult in the beginning - low bp/lots of dizziness and headaches and tremendous insomnia. I didn't mind the dietary restrictions at all - was just a bit concerned about the possibility that I might one day need a med in an emergency situation and that I would not be able to take it.
I gained a lot of weight on it (about 30 lbs.) If it hadn't been for the weight, I think I would still be on it. It was amazing. Nothing has ever been quite as effective since . . .

Thanks to everyone who responded to this thread, its much apreciated.
Philipa you have my official permision to follow :)I'm worried that my experience on Nardil will be similar to jparsell82's (wish I new what his/her name was!)
Clomipramine was helpful for my SA but it made me lazy and sleepy, anything that makes me lazy cannot be good, I'm lazy enough as it is!
It sounds like Nardil combined with Dexedrine or Ritalin might work well, but its impossible to get that prescribed in the UK.

Hi,
I am very happy your doctor agreed. As you might know, I am finding it very hepful already for SA and I just been on 60 for only 3 weeks now. Full effects need 4 to 6 weeks to appear. But it really looks promising. Not sure what your doctor thinks your target dose should be. I have read many places articles wriiten by doctors who say that the dose should be at least 1mg/kg. This means 75mg for me. I might try this but I am waiting til the side effects subside a little (only constipation). The sexual side effects are controlled for now by the Periactin, and anorgasmia isn't so awful after all, cause the it's really "anejaculation" and that's it, there is some sort of climax after all.
You must remmember that we all are different and you never know how you will react for it. For me it was much kinder than I expected. Hypotension and faintness lasted only for 3 days when I started the 60mg, the constipation is getting better, and simply that's it. Sorry to tell you, however, but I suspect I am gaining weight, haven't measured but feel it on clothes! This really doesn't bother me personally, at least so far. But I think you can get around it if you watch closely watch what and how much you eat. Just wait and see...
Good luck,
Ted.

I think it might be Josh, I'm not sure though, I could be confusing him with someone else :-)

It's working?

You might be buying some new clothes to celebrate your new found confidence!

Hi, ssri's and benzo's make my motivation and concentration really bad. Has anybody had this problem with these and then tried nardil and it didn't cause these problems?

Yes! I have had quite an experience going on Nardil. It's been a long road, but it is finally starting to work, it's wonderful! Know you're in for a wild ride though, it's a drastic change in body chemistry, and make sure you have a good psych who will take u up quickly so you don't have to wait forever wondering if it's going to work like I did. I have my whole experience blogged :
