I read a page a while back on how manic episodes could effectivly be treated by fasting. It was something about the anticonvulsant effect of fasting. It also suggested that this technique could be used for epilepsy.
Fasting boosts BDNF, and desensitized the serotonin autoreceptors.
I can't find the page anymore, has anyone heard of this ?

It might have something to do with the ketogenic diet which is used mostly in children with epilepsy.http://www.epilepsyfoundation.org/answerplace/Medical/treatment/diet/ketowhatitdo.cfm
