Ritalin

I read on the pharmacy hand-out that they give you that it can take up to two weeks before you notice an improvement from Ritalin/methylphenidate. My understanding has always been that it and other stimulants pretty much work right away (assuming you're at the right dose).

Does anyone know if it could really take that long?

The reason I ask is because it doesn't seem to work for me, but I wonder if I keep taking it, maybe it would work.

I took ritalin, and it worked right away for me, not well, but it worked. I took Ritalin LA 20 mg 2x day. What's your dose? Have you taken other stimulants? How does ritalin compare?

Hmmm, worth a try, what's your doc say?

When you say it doesn't work do you mean you feel no effects of the med or that it isn't helping your focus?

I was on Ritalin for a long long time until it got to where I could no longer feel its effects...and the reason it stopped (IMO) is because I tried Adderall and then went back to Ritalin. The Adderall was stronger so I am guessing that after experiencing it I felt like the Ritalin didnt work (even though in reality it probably worked just the same as it had for all those years).
Maybe Ritalin is just not strong enough for you? Have you been on any other stims?

Thanks for your responses. Yeah, I felt like it didn't work because it didn't seem to help me focus. Well, actually, sometimes I felt like it did but other times it didn't seem to do anything.

I think I went up to 30mgs/day at the highest--- I tried taking all 30mgs at once to see if it helped. Immediate-release type. I've also tried Adderall and it doesn't seem to help with any attention problems either. So I don't know. It seems like if something is helping, I should know, shouldn't I? It shouldn't be like I'm trying to guess if it's working or not.

Can you be more specific? Re: Ritalin

Is the problem distraction / impulsivity / diffioculty sustaining concentration on humdrum things / sleepiness?

Can you give a practical example ?
Are you starting from a baseline of reasonable physical health?
Did you sleep the night before?
