I have never tried Effexor, but from reading many posts over the years, it's a very effective drug with minimal side effects for most people. But if you discontinue it, it should be done gradually over the course of at least 6 weeks. Also, another antidepressant should be started while one is weaining off of Effexor.
I have been on Lexapro, and it's predecessor Celexa, for years. It's an excellent drug. The problem for me is that when I eventually went up to 40 mg, it gave me sexual difficulties. Therefore, I am trying to gradually go down to 25 or 30 mg with the recent addition of Lamictal.
The other side effect that Lexapro (and certain other antidepressants)gave me was a certain degree of day time tiredness. I added Provigil (400 mg) about 8 months a go to deal with that as well as ADD. It has been working very well for both.
I have never taken Seroquel but it is supposed to have less side effects than the older drugs of it's class. I think that it can cause tiredness, but I think the tiredness becomes less of a problem after a while. I believe that since it can cause tiredness, a lot of people take it at night before going to bed. (Or at least most of the dose before bed.)

20mg sounds like a massive dose to start with. That's the dose people usually work up to over time, but many people do fine with just 5mg or 10mg. I'm also just starting lexapro, but I cut a 10mg pill into 4 pieces and do just one piece a day, working up from the smallest piece to the largest piece, with an initial goal of 5mg. Almost there after a week. I couldn't even imagine starting at 20mg. Holy cow.
100mg seroquel is ok, you should find it good for sleep, but it has such a short half life. I found it really only helped me sleep for about 3 hours. Some people though find it too sedating, but not for me. I liked the sedation part, but it just didn't last long enough. Also, because of it serotonin receptor blocking capabilities, it can help with the lexapro side effects, but the problem again is that since its half life is so short it won't help much during the day because most of it will have already been out of your system.

Blueberry, I just started a Thread about lexapro down the board. My doc is thinking about starting me on this. Could you maybe answer it? or give me the initial side effects here? Thanks, Fondly, Phillipa
