Since my old oldpdoc started me on trileptal l50x2 going to 300x2, even with l5mg of valium I'm only sleeping 5-6hours a night. Is it stimulating or will it keep me awake. I wake up and no matter even if I take a higher dose of valium I can't go back to sleep. Mind racing all the time. Thanks, Fondly, Phillipa

My stepdad takes 450X2 daily for siezures.
It does help with sleep it, it effects GABA, it does sedate thoughts. It is not stimulating, more levelizing-sedating at higher doses.
Hope that helped.

Hi Phillipa,
Trileptal may not be sedating for everyone because of its potentially pro-dopaminergic effects:
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?cmd=Retrieve&db=PubMed&list_uids=10871703&dopt=AbstractAre you taking it specfically for sleep? I seem to remember that you're actually taking it due to suspected BPII. You may want to consider taking your doses earlier in the day and seeing if that helps.
It's hard to go through the process of adjusting to a new med, as you know based on my current experience with Lexapro. I hope that this smooths out for you.
Best,

Hi Phillipa,
I just got this. How did it go with skipping the Trileptal and taking it this morning?

cache-monkey, believe it or not. I skipped it last night and forgot to take it tday. Since I've been using samples and my finances are not good. Think I'll skip it and wait till dec 22 with new pdoc. Think I slept a little longer last night but i did take 20mg of valium instead of l5. Fondly, phillipa
