Has anyone found the generic to be weaker than the name brand?

Maybe it's just in my mind, but I think Klonopin is just a tad stronger than its generic.

I have heard enough stories and seen enough anecdotal evidence over the years and even some recent clinical evidence to believe that generic is not exactly the same as brand. That includes all meds, not just klonopin.

The debate continues however. I can only say that with several medications I have taken, I can indeed tell a difference between generic and brand.

I've only had generic clonazepam, which causes sedation and fogginess. Reducing the level is not effective for anxiety relief. Do you find brand name less sedating?

I was reading a journal article a few months ago about a study they did where they switched the participants from Xanax to the generic alprazolam and the participants experienced withdrawal. I wish I had kept a reference to that article-but you get the point-benzo generics might well be different than their generic counterparts. I have found that to be the case with Xanax and Ativan.

Funny I was paying all that extra money for brand name valium. the generic works as well. I've heard that the real klonopin is better. Oh and if you get the generic Greenstone xanax it's made by the the real xanax and really the same. I tried the switch and it was the same. I think it depends on the med. Also if you start on generic don't swtich vice versa. Love Phillipa

Though not all agree, I'm one that feels certain that brand klonopin is a better more effective drug than generic. I don't feel that all medicines are better brand, just talking klonopin here.

I have tried both and feel much better on brand. Some will suggest that's a placebo effect, but the change was significant. I pay up the you know what to get brand, in fact insurance covers generics not brand, but the difference is that significant to me.

My doctor insists I take brand and writes brand only on the scripts. He told me when klonopin went generic, patients started complaining, anxiety increased it was less effective.

There has been and is much debate on this and I think the only way anyone can answer the question is to just get their next refil as brand, give it 30 days and see for themsleves.

Just my take. Rob

Good point-it isn't that a given generic WILL be different than brand, it is just that you should be aware that it might be-and if a switch to generic suddenly causes a difference in efficacy, consider that it might be because of the switch, and not something else.

Despite the fact that generics are made by the most dirt-cheap process that barely passes testing, I said with a huge scientific bias! :>}
