Hello Everyone,
I had been on Lamictal with no result except urinary retention (?? turned out to be true!).
On Wednesday I was taken off Lamictal. It was replaced with Trileptol 150mg twice a day. I have no idea if it's doing anything or not.
Seroquel was added to try to regulate my sleeping habits. The Rx is for 50mg at bedtime.
However, my pdoc advised me to use my trusty pill cutter and take half a tab to start out with. So Wed. night I took 25mg.
It was like having a hangover the next day. All night long I had disturbing dreams. I woke up exhausted, with a dry mouth and headache. I had to really struggle to get moving after about 14 hours of sleep.
I reported this to the pdoc and he advised me to cut the tabs into quarters and take 12.5mg and bedtime.
I'm doing this but I still feel really tired and drugged all the next day. When I first get out of bed I'm so depressed that it takes me a while to shake off the mood of all those antsy dreams.
I'm still sleeping 15-16 hrs a night and my schedule is totally whacked. I go to bed around 1:00AM - 2:00AM and get up the next day around 4:00pm. Ny sleeping patterns aren't being regulated in anyway. Instead I'm sleeping even more than I did.
I've been doing this for a couple of days and haven't seen any change. I was wondering if other folks:
1. Get any results one way or the other from Trileptol.
2. Have wicked sedation problems with Seroquel, even at low doses.
Thanks to all,
Reggie BoStar

Doesn't sound like you need anything to sleep. I was on low dose trileptal no problems at all. Love Phillipa

Hi Phillipa,
Nice to hear from you again. It's nice to be semi-sane, too. Wonder how long this one will last.I was wondering about your experience with Trileptol. You said you had no trouble with it, but did it do anything positive for you at all?
Thanks,

Reggie to be honest I didn't notice a thing but I was only put on 150mg pdoc said to help anxiety. When I googled it nowhere did I see anxiety mentioned. So off the trileptal. It caused no side effects which is something for me. Love Phillipa

Reggie I only have experience with Seroquel taken at bedtime only. I started with 25 mg and it knocked me flat. I could sleep for hours. My PDOC said that raising the dosage often helps to eliminate the sleep elixir effect so we eventually titrated up to 300 mg. I still was unconcious within the hour, went to bed before midnight and slept until noon, and then along with it came daytime anxiety. My PDOC was puzzled by this as it is supposed to have the opposite effect so she called the pharmaceutical company and they indeed had reports of a paradoxical reaction with anxiety, albiet this was at 600 mg or more. I am extremely med sensitive so it made sense that I was experiencing this at 'only' 300 mg. I had to stop Seroquel. It did nothing for my Bipolar. 10 mg of Zyprexa at bedtime works like a charm for me but I am experiencing 'blunting' and of course have had the dreaded weight gain. So it's on to Topamax for me. Good luck!
