Hi cee,
IMHO the dosage of a MAOI that stops the depression will also be your maintenance dose. Normally, you will not be given Nardil unless your depression is treatment resistant. I have discontinued Nardil four times in the past ten years for other med trials. Each time has led to a return of major depression and social anxiety symptoms. You may be able to reduce your maintenance doseage a little, but I would not risk a large decrease if your depression is severe and treatment resistant. Just my opinion.
Be well,
Jedi

I think Doctors who recommend a low maintenance dose make a lot of sense. The great majority of MAO has been mopped up so a small amount only is needed to destroy the new MAO that is slowly being made. If that were true I would be happy as my weight might drop and I might get my sex life back.

Unfortunately for this issue, there's more to Nardil than mere MAO inhibition. One notable effect is a GABA agonist effect (I think) which calms anxiety, for which you probably need the full dose

I worked up to 80 mg per day. When I dropped to 70 or even 75 mg per day the benefits declined noticeably.

So my personal experience is that there isn't a "maintenance dose"; there is a therapeutic dose, and if you take less, it won't work as well or won't work at all.
