Recently I went to an unavoidable formal social event and ended up in a slow moving panic, which I unsuccessfully tried to ameliorate with a couple of tianeptine, Valium and a few drinks.
By slow moving panic I mean getting into a state where you can't walk past people because you don't know how, not to speak of talking to them.
It took 2 days to recover from the depression associated with it.
What is annoying is that I know that if I'd had just 5 or maybe 10mg of Dexedrine, a little Valium and a couple of drinks I could have avoided the whole horrible mental business.

You're probably just out of practice. Very social people are often good at putting on a show which is done more easily when self-esteem is up and anxiety low. My self-esteem is pretty low at the moment and i'm certainly not ready yet for large rooms full of people (though tianeptine is the first med to have offered glimpses of regaining that for me) perhaps its down to personality- but what is the personal 'mood or style' of somebody if not the projection of their brain chemistry?
Chances are if you didn't feel 100% going into that situation then you probably weren't. Replicating the gentle gregariousness of somebody without a mood disorder through benzos and stimulants might be counter-intuitive, though i have been there and done that myself (with cocaine in particular, and perhaps before that for a time, pills)
Personally I would try and be as gentle on yourself as possible, maybe avoiding situations which might compound your low mood, also considering carefully listening to your mates' advice/protestations 'it'll cheer you up' and 'you need to get out' might do more harm than good. Potentially alarming social events have seemed like a good idea when down. It'll be fine if i drink won't it? And of course don't rely on the depressive mind to always come to the most beneficial outcomes. I have gone to parties and regretted them and ended corners of marquees covered inexplicably in sand, waking to find a a concerned girl with watchful eyes ask me if i was alright. Have a 'chilled' one instead in front of a some decent french cinema (I recommend the healing powers of 'Toto le Hero') or read a book until your truly back in the game.

Sorry to hear about your experience with the social event. Sounds like you made it through and are depressed that you couldn't relax and enjoy it (socialize). You say you had the valium and the drinks? Do you not have the Dex because can't get script? Or is that your own choice? Has that ever backfired? Dex+val+alcohol?
Have you ever tried Ritalin? Maybe that could work instead, just for such occasions. When I used to take it, I noticed it made me more sociable, never in a wierd speedy way. Now here's a REALLY lame suggestion. What about a couple of strong cups of coffee just before. (I know, you'll never read one of my posts again!) Just trying to get to know you :)

Yeah, hello

It was one of those unavoidable social events that parents have to deal with.>You say you had the valium and the drinks?

That's right. You only get that here with an ADHD diagnosis or perhaps a sleep study>Or is that your own choice?
Afraid not>Has that ever backfired? Dex+val+alcohol?
5 or 10mg Dex would be OK...5 would have been enough.

Ritalin made me feel the same way.
I just needed something to make me look normal for a bit.
Funny thing, this normal.
I don't believe in it, and yet we sometimes crave it.

Hi Sigismund,
Don't know you well, but you sound a little ADHD. Better get that checked out.

caffeine and sugar can give you a nice buzz to boost your social skills
did you take the tianeptine one at a time?the bottom line is that it sucks that you felt required to attend a social event you would have preferred to skip
sorry you had such a tough time of it

Yes, I took the tianeptines with 2.5mg Valium each time.
I seek, of course, to regard my feelings as one does the weather and sometimes the weather is bad.

No no, it's fine, but dex is not available here except in extreme cases.
There is speed, although I don't have that either.
Anyway, it lasts too way long.
