Parnate Sublingual Anyone?

Posted by Azurecat on June 25, 2009, at 4:38:32

It seems that there must be something that could lessen reactions with tyramine, either by interfering with tyramine's absorption or by taking Parnate sublingually. Anyone had any experiences with this?

Thanks

I sometimes wonder if a monoamine oxidase dietary supplement could be made (like Lactaid) to break down tyramine in your stomach.

That would be a great idea! I've also wondered if there was anything that would block to absorption of tyramine, since it's an amino acid and they tend to be block by other amino acids.

I'm surprised that pharm companies have not invented something to inactivate tyramine in the stomach. Than docs and patients could use these drugs more often as they may in fact be the best drugs for certain depressions.

I just started taking Parnate yesterday. I was afraid to pop that first pill in my mouth, worried that something I ate was going to send me into a hypertensive crises. It hasn't happened in the last two days! Every list I've found online for foods to avoid lists something slightly different. Oh well!

So far Parnate is feeling a lot like Wellbutrin; not the effect I was hoping for. It's energizing but making me feel uptight and my temper's been a little short, which is nothing like me.

Azurecate, I am really interested in hearing how you feel on Parnate. I just started Parnate May 4th. I still can't really figure out how I feel mostly because I am SO tired all the time. I take 50mg Parnate, 6mg amytriptyline and now he added 100-200mg Provigil. I'm still tired. However, I have gotten very comfortable with the diet restrictions, especially since I figured out I can have coffee and cheap mozarella! I bet you will too! Good luck!! Gayle
