No appetite on Geodon. Should I take mutlivitamin?

Posted by jerrypharmstudent on August 21, 2009, at 20:11:59

Since being on Geodon (40mg BID) I've lost my appetite almost completely - but I'm not complaining because I'm overweight as it is. But I'm not eating well or little at all. So I'm wondering if I should be taking a multivitamin?

Any ideas?

Jerry

Jerry since I lost my taste and smell at least six years ago I force myself to eat and drink what I know I should even if not hungry. I feel most people need at least an MVI daily. Love Phillipa

No reason not to one way or the other... as long as it isn't some odd megadose one with lots of "alternative stuff" thrown in, an average multivitamin is perfectly fine for someone.

It won't replace though the amino acids that are lost from not eating...

...but as you mentioned you're overweight anyhow, I wouldn't worry about it, you have plenty of reserves stored in fat.

I wish I had no appetite so I could lose a ton of weight, but I can't take ketogenics like Hoodia, they are like firewater to anxiety.

Just make sure to hydrate yourself well, drink electrolyte drinks, even diet ones, whichever, so you don't drain yourself by just drinking water all the time.

You may find a "liquid diet" to be more appealing than a solid food one if you're not eating right. E.g. "Odwalla" shakes or something like that. But you don't need to go overboard on it either. Just enough to avoid hypoglycemia.

Things will adjust themselves I am sure over time. If you really get into the "danger zone" way down the road, there are always medications that can be added carefully to improve your appetite.
