Med wedged in that pipeline...

Posted by willyeee on October 30, 2009, at 11:04:43

While doing some late night searching,i came across some meds in the pipeline, while most lack a product name and are listed still only by number codes, klonopin was there in clinical trials as a NASAL SPRAY?

Not sure how i feel about this, the effiency i imagine would be great, but just think if like xanax follows its path,my brother is in jail due to being high on xanaxn and acting up in public,do we really need benzos to be that much more potent?

I can understand Klonopin as a nasal spray (just like there is a sub-lingual version) because it just means absorption is better (via the mucosal membranes). So really it is not more potent, it just acts faster and that's good especially for people who have sudden panic attacks.

But Xanax!? I hope they don't take that route because you are so right it is much more likely to be abused. Unlike Klonopin, it gives many people a mild high. Can you imagine if that high came instantly, with a spray!

I agree with you- its risky territory.

Surely the dose would be adjusted to account for the change in delivery.

True, plus xanax is already different as a benzo due to its fast onset of action vs klonopin,i dont think we need a faster xanax, however klonopin takes quite long which is why its useful for general anxiety opposed to panic like xanax, maybe if this delivery system proves well klonopin can be used more as an option for direct panic as well.
