So many Depakote versions?

Posted by SheilaC on January 31, 2010, at 14:31:16

Ok - I am confused. Why are there so many versions of Depakote? Is it generic now?

My doc gave me a script for the EC version. How many hours does the EC version stay in your body? Is that an immediate release? Slow release?

The samples the docs have are all capsule/sprinkle versions. I'm guessing those are extended release versions? How long do they stay in your system?

It was hard to find a pharmacy that had the EC version. I had to call all over town. Most just carry the ER version.

They must still be messing with the formula. I was prescribed Depakote in 1997 during a long hospitalization. They also gave it to my roommate. It made me feel lousy right away, so I quit taking it. She continued to take it and she started throwing up every day.

Anyway, that's all I have...I know it sounds obvious, but I can't think of any other reason except that perhaps it was too strong to begin with, hence the extended release version.
