I have recently been diagnosed with akathesia after taking reglan. The two worse side-effects for me are insomnia and crying. Am taking requip 3mg 3 x per day for RLS and neurontin, and 30 mg. of restoril and 2mg of ativan at hs. and only sleep 2 to 4 hrs. This has been going on for 8 months and am ready to give up. Dr. wants to try cymbalta, but my insurance doesn;t cover it and cannot take ssri's because of the rls. Also have fibromyalgia. Any advice>

Do you qualify for help from the drug company for cymbalta as they say good for fibromyalgia, also lyrica is supposed to be good. Seems the insurance companies have just priced meds so high people can't afford them. Phillipa

Doxepin is great sleep med, older tca i think.Nevertheless its what they were using in jail but they took it cause we were sleeping to well.
Also dont rule out two milc muscle relaxers, skelaxin and zanaflex which also can help aid in sleep, although not conventional of course.
And if you are lucky, try to get xyrem, which produces rem sleep, deep stage sleep,it can be off labled for insomnia but you gotta have one hella doc to do it.

Thanks for the suggestions-I really feel as if I am losing my mind-3 hrs. last night and no naps per Dr.This akathesia is just too much. I no longer enjoy much out of life as can't sit long enough to read, watch TV, etc. Appreciate all help. JT

I'm sure its tough to get it all organized with the lack of sleep and all, but it might be easier to get useful help if you could be a bit mroe specific about what your conditions are, and what medications you have taken and are taking, and how each affects you.
