A recommendation for turmeric

Posted by jms600 on August 16, 2011, at 5:54:17

Around 6 weeks ago, I started taking turmeric tablets twice a day to help my existing panic disorder, GAD and depression. After the first couple of weeks I started to notice an improvement in my symptoms. My mood lifted and the GAD lessened.

Okay, it hasn't made a massive difference. I'm not cured, but there is certainly some noticeable effects. It I'm also taking 225mg Effexor, 600mg lithium and 40mg buspirone. Some people would say that the reduction in symptoms is due to the drug regime I'm on, however, I've been on the above drugs for sometime without any major success.

I believe the drugs are contributing to my improvement, however, I really feel the turmeric is playing a vital role.

I'm not sure if its safe to take with MAOIs but other than that I would recommend anyone to try it!

Turmeric did not agree with me, but for the majority of people who try it there are benefits. It is primarily an anti-inflammatory. The exact benefits someone will get vary. But obviously, any reduction of systemic inflammation or nervous system inflammation is going to allow the whole works to perform better, and thus less symptoms of all kinds. Supplements substances that would seem to have nothing to do with psychiatry can have decent psychiatric benefits. That's why I'm always preaching think outside the box, try stuff, expand the boundaries beyond just psychiatry alone. Health and the workings of the human brain are just too complicated to fit neatly in one category or one box.
