namenda (sp?)

Posted by baseball55 on April 16, 2014, at 19:51:44

I just had dinner with an old friend who has suffered from depression for a number of years. She told me she started taking named. I was unclear on whether she took it because she was worried about memory lapses or whether her p-doc prescribed it for depression.

Anyway, she said it made her depression lift completely. She had energy, focus, felt competent and capable, etc, etc.

Anyone else tried this, heard about it?

it's a cognative enhancer, smart drug, but the main thign they use it for is for people with that alitimers thing....it's suppost to restore mental function, alot of amphetamine users use it to keep the tolerance from the brain adapting.

It will help some thinking and enhanced memory, may help with learning too....

thats all

Been considering it next visit, Rich, for exactly what you said.

I have treatment-resistant depression and Dexedrine tolerance, and I think it may help.

Same, I'm thinking of asking for it in XR instead of Mirapex ER, which I can't seem to get off of but don't like being on.

Main issues cognition and depression. Difficulty focusing off Mirapex, difficult relaxing on Mirapex.

Maybe Namenda would be better as it hits only D2 on the dopamine side of things instead of Mirapex's predominate effect on D3, and some on D3 and D4.

Namenda is a weak NMDA antagonist. NMDA antagonists are being studied for their antidepressant qualities. Other NMDA antagonists include Ketamine, Ethanol, Dextromathorphan, PCP, etc.

I've been on Namenda before and can say it provided some mood uplift.
