To Dr. Bob--Encomium and Query

Posted by medlib on January 3, 2001, at 1:24:27

Dr. Bob--

Many thanks for all your hard work, and congratulations on your successful transplant procedure. It sounds like you need a vacation from your holidays. Please pardon my impatient crack about needing to send the Pony Express for St. James; I didn't know your server had coded. As much as I dote on academia (like many Asbergers), it's not a world known to value speed; even CSers seem to believe it's a trait only microprocessors possess. Perhaps the enforced hiatus has served to heighten appreciation for PB's existence--it has for me.

Query re PSB: Does archiving of present boards proceed automatically when a predetermined file size or byte limit is reached, or do you do this manually? If the latter, I would like to ditto MarkH's request to roll over the current PSB (in all your spare time, of course.)

Query re password: Have you been successful in securing a secure server? I ask because I have not had to supply a password in order to post before. Since I use the same password for *many* purposes (thanks to the effects of ADs), I would hate to have it floating around cyberspace readily available. Of course, maybe ADs have made me not only forgetful, but paranoid, too.

Here's hoping for a less nerve-wracking new millenium---medlib

It's the former. The key to doing this is to proceed automatically as often as possible. :-)

You *should* have had to supply a password for a while now! Maybe it was being done automatically (see above) with a "cookie"?

I've been wanting to encrypt those cookies for a while now. I've been busy sidetracked lately, but I'll try to get to it soon...

In the meantime, the server has in fact been secured -- and with this new system, you should be able to read (and therefore post) with "https" as well as "http", and therefore have your password "float" in encrypted form, at least. :-)
