a suggestion: adding links

Posted by octopusprime on October 2, 2004, at 10:59:03

hi dr. bob:

in this post
http://www.dr-bob.org/babble/20041002/msgs/398251.html

i provided links for reporting medication errors. i think it would be nice if this page http://www.dr-bob.org/mental.html had some medication safety links.

thanks!

I agree, but I haven't been able to keep that page up to date. Maybe I should make the process more automated? And add a way for people to submit links?

Bob

hey an automated solution would be very cool, dr. bob.

my suggestion:
i have seen categorized, automated or semi-automated (you can require moderator approval of weblinks) implemented before in PHPNuke. it is the weblinks module of PHPNuke. You can download PHPNuke from here:
http://phpnuke.org/

now i know this site is all perl, all the time. but i figure you might be able to look at the code and see how to do a port. (there might even be a perl port of it floating around somewhere on the internet if you would like to take a gander)

it would be a rainy day kinda project if you're interested. but it sounds like the kind of solution you're after if you want to keep the links up to date. that phpnuke module also has a mechanism for reporting and removing dead links.

Thanks for the tip, actually I already have something like that working for the Virtual Pamphlet Collection:

I think I could do it the same way, it would just be a matter of reconfiguring things...

Bob
