Just looking at all the places IL-6 appears!
'Chronic interleukin-6 alters NMDA receptor-mediated membrane responses and enhances neurotoxicity in developing CNS neurons.'
"These results support a pathological role for IL-6 in the CNS and indicate that NMDA receptor-mediated functions are likely to play a critical role in neuropathological changes observed in CNS diseases associated with elevated CNS levels of IL-6."http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?cmd=Retrieve&db=pubmed&dopt=Abstract&list_uids=9852582

Correct my if I'm wrong, but doesn't magnesium act as both an NMDA antagonist, and a supresser interkeuken-6.

So interleukin 6 and magnesium both have effects on the NMDA receptor directly, and low magnesium can, along with several other factors (inflammation, infection etc..) raise interleukin 6.
Thanks, sorry to go on about interleukin 6, but it does seem fascinating!

I think the immune system is integral to those recovering from depression.
