Hi, My first day.. How's everyone?
I'm weening myself off lexapro of 4 years and now trying to find an all natural substitute..I'm tired of being a guinee pig for my doctors and pharmaceutical companies. I religiously take my MSM and Apple Cidar Vinegar, and proud to say my cholesterol and blood pressure are good..
Hope to find something soon ..
TY

Hi.

I'm new, too. Good luck weaning off your meds. There are lots of very intelligant people who have a savvy understanding of herbs and minerals and supplements who you will, no doubt, learn a lot from (use the search function on specific subjects you'd like to learn more about!). I wish that I could offer you some advice myself, but I'm just now starting to educate myself on it all and muddling through the stops and starts, have started acupuncture (and some herbs that they prescribed), along with my vitamin regime--and a course in SAMe--that you'll see, according to another thread active in the last few days, may be quite foolhardy of me!

I think some good places to start with the non-big-pharma remedies might be here: The Mood Cure by Julia Ross, one of Daniel Amen's books, and another book (that I'm eyeing) by Eric Braverman called The Healing Nutrients Within. And fish oil (specifically EPA) seems to come up again and again as a supplement that has scientific backing that should be of help to most people with mood problems.

If you can hook up with a pdoc that prescribes both kinds of meds, definitely do. (This may be, as it was for me, impossible to do with limited funds, having to rely on insurance.) But you're not alone, that's for sure. Just start trolling through all the other posts here and you'll see.
