Lithium Orotate?

Posted by bleauberry on June 3, 2008, at 19:52:37

I know this topic pops up every now and then, but just thought I would gather people's experiences/thoughts/studies on lithium orotate. Even more specifically, the Serenity brand.

i've heard that it's dangerous to self-medicate lithium as:

"Toxicity is common in people taking lithium because the effective dose is close to the toxic dose."

Lithium Orotate is a vastly different animal than the Lithium prescribed as a medication. The toxic level for the medicine is very close to the so-called, Dr.-touted, efficacious amount used for Bi-Polar control. I have taken the drug and it sucks. Talk about a zombie effect with weight gain.

Lithium Orotate and Aspartate are completely different. The amount of elemental Lithium supplied by the supplemental versions is extremely low and yet extremely effective. 5 to 10 mgs once or twice a day is amazing in its effect, as compared to the drug which is dosed at several hundred mgs per day.

I view the Serenity Brand as something of a marketing gimmick, but that is just my opinion. I get mine from vitacost.com and use the Nutraceutical Sciences Institute brand (house brand). It is only $5.99 for 120 capsules. Other good brands would be Solaray and Advanced Research and can be purchased from LuckyVitamin.com (good prices and very reliable). You will notice on the Advanced Research bottle that 120mg of Lithium Orotate provides 4.8mg of ELEMENTAL Lithium. That is the difference between the mineral and the drug. The drug forces several hundred mgs of ELEMENTAL Lithium in your face from the outset. Not needed and not good. Drs....sheesh!
