B6 and fatty acids for depression

Posted by Lao Tzu on April 19, 2011, at 12:14:01

I'm having a lot of luck with using B6 and fatty acids along with my depression medication. I've been using 200mg of B6 per day, 1,500mg of fish oil, and one 1,300mg capsule of borage oil along with my medications. I have to say that the high dose B6 alone does a lot for the depression, whereas lower doses only modestly affect the depression. If you have pyroluria, then higher doses are needed to ward off the depression. I have to say that I feel a lot better, but I know that I still need my medications. I'm taking Risperdal, lamictal, and zoloft in addition to the supplements. I had been taking zinc tablets for years, but have noticed that they may not be helping my depression as much as I thought. Zinc supplementation tends to make me more depressed, but the B6 is a godsend. Other supplements I have had some success with are selenium, B1, B2, vitamin E, calcium, magnesium, and B12. Out of these, vitamin E, B1, and calcium / magnesium are necessary supplements for me.
