they are both snri's, so I'm wondering if it's possible that it would be a smooth transition.

You might want to try posting your message on the medication board. That board seems to get more traffic and is read by more people who might be able to answer your question.
I personally haven't taken either Pristiq or Serzone, so I can't speak from experience about what a switch from Pristiq to Serzone might be like.
