My stomach, that I have moaned about so effusively in the past, was just starting to improve since my changeover on medication. Now it is bloated and huge and I have had to unzip my skirt. All that for PMS. Oh, and yuck cramps too. It's too hot to take a nice hot bath!
Sigh

I have trouble now keeping track of what is making me feel how. Meds? Hormones? Barometric pressure? Phase of the moon? Do I feel crummy because my body is wearing out, I'm stressed, or I'm actually, physically *sick*.
This trying to live in harmony with oneself is the hardest school I've ever attended. We have to be kind to ourselves with eating the right food, sleeping enough, taking our bodies out for exercise, murmuring soothing mantras when we're upset, remembering to breathe, goshdarnit!, slathering skin lotion on to rough elbows... I tell you, this being a human is high maintenance.

I hate PMS too...
Some months it is fine, I don't really get it.
But others it is just horrible. All bloated and crabby and cramps.
I have just celebrated the return of my PMS!
Really, after the depo injection I didn't get my period... since August... and it is back!I never thought I'd be saying this but
YAY!

Has it been anyone's experience that the older one gets, the worse the PMS symptoms and/or the worse the discomfort of your period?
I am 35 and within the past year, the first few days of my period have been awful - stomach upset, cramps that hardly go away, fatigue. This never used to happen.
Can I chalk this up to getting older?

I thought it was just me. But, yes, my PMS has been getting worse as the years go by. For the longest time, the only PMS symptoms I got were some b*tchiness and mild fatigue (barely even had a cramp). Now about 10 days before, I am exhausted, moody, cranky and anxious. Plus now I get cramps and nausea. Yuk! I seem to recall reading somewhere that PMS symptoms, for those who do experience PMS, do get worse over the years. I started using Vitex (Chasteberry) to see if it will help relieve my PMS. It can take up to three months to notice a significant difference, but I have found some moderate relief after about one month.

I experience a lot of fatigue now a couple days before as well. Never used to be that way. IN my 20s, I barely knew it was there!

Me too! It is horrible! I could sleep all day if I could. But, I just find myself dragging my PMS, unfocussed, unmotivated, carb-craving butt around like a block of cement. Arrrrrrrg!

Ok so I am young but I have a couple of female friends in their 40's. They both agree with you guys; it definately gets worse as you get older.
I reccomend Evening Primrose Oil. You need a fairly hefty dosage but if you keep it up it helps considerably with PMS AND Depression - especially if your depression gets worse mid cycle and when you have your period.
The contraceptive pill can help with PMS as well. One of my friends was on it solely for that reason.

See what you have to look forward to! I must admit that I am a lot more confident, outgoing, etc. since I hit my 30's, but the body just ain't the same!

Confident and outgoing are good. I'm kinda shy and antisocial myself :-(
But seriously though, the evening primrose is worth a try. A clinical psychologist reccomended that one for me. It helped an awful lot. And a friend of mine (in her early 40's) seeing the same lady tried it and we both noticed a substantial improvement. Only reason I am not still on it is because it is too expensive.

I haven't read the follow up posts, but I agree, my period has gotten much worse since getting older. (I am now 33).
I'm done having kids, I wouldn't mind if my period vanished without a trace.Sabrina
