Did your MD probe around your neck and face to see if your muscles were in spasm? If it is a spasm the ibuprofen would get the inflamation down. Do you take any calcium supplements? It's very good for the muscles. If you're inclined to do this you might want to get a Calcium-Magnesium combo, preferably either chelated or Cal-Mag citrate, gluconate etc. Additionally, applying heat-if you ARE in spasm- will help. One of those bean-bag looking thingies that goes in the microwave works very well for me.
I hope this helps.

Are you feeling any better. I just saw this post for the first time.
It could be migraine.
Ask your doc if you can try a triptan, which is a med specifially for migraine. The names of some triptans are Imitrex, Zomig, Frova (that's the newest I think) Amerge, Aexert, Maxalt.
There is some question about something called Serotonin syndrome for people taking high doses of SSRI's and triptans. It is very rare, and many, many people take both meds without bad affect.
If a doc sends you home to take Ibuprophen for migraine and it doesn't work, you do need to go back, and go back again until you get some relief. Sometimes it takes some drastic stuff to get rid of a migraine that has been around for a while.
So talk to your doc. You can also go to this wonderful forum (choose "migraine discussion") if you have questions. http://www.migrainepage.com/
I do hope you are feeling better and have the energy to advocate for yourself on this.
