hi-- i looked through the archives to see if there have been posts on pilates, but i couldn't find much.
i've read that pilates is supposed to strengthen your abs/flatten your stomach and make your legs leaner. has anyone done pilates, stuck with it, and seen these results? are there weight benefits involved with pilates?
i just started a beginner's DVD-- 25 min sessions-- this weekend. i like the exercises and see how they could help with posture, definitely. the toning and stuff i'm less sure of and would like to know the time frame if anyone knows.
thanks!

I have been going to a Pilates class as often as I can (long story), and love it. I highly recommend that you go to a class, though, either as well as or instead of the video. Just having it in a class with other people is good for you.
While I haven't seen any tummy flattening -- and remember I'm suffering greatly from refeeding syndrome right now -- I have been aware of how much stronger I feel when I've been able to make it there a couple of times in a week.

thanks, racer. when you say a class, do you mean like a class at a gym, or do they hold separate pilates classes in non-gym settings, say in home basements or something? i'm just conjuring up images here. and for fees, are they affordable? i'd love to do a pilates class, but i have a couple of concerns: (1) cost, (2) my stamina isn't the greatest, and certain parts of my body are a lot stronger than others. i don't want to be the one in the class who can't keep up.
thanks for posting!

I used to teach Pilates classes. It's great for strengthening your core muscles, toning your muscles and for increased flexibility.
If you're trying to lose weight, pilates alone will not help. You'll still need to do aerobic activity and watch what you eat. If you're already at your target weight, you should see results fairly quik from pilates.

thanks, wildflower. i'm not really trying to lose weight. if at all, only about three pounds so as not to have to buy new clothes. mostly, i want to remain looking thin but more toned and maybe less sickly. hopefully i'll see those results soon. thanks!
