I'm thinking of getting either an under-the-sink or a counter-top water filter for the kitchen. Does anyone have any suggestions regarding the brand I should buy? I've been alternating between using Brita filters and buying bottled water. I don't think Brita does much and the bottled water is too expensive. Any ideas?

what about a water cooler? I don't think they cost that much and the bottled water ends up being resonably priced.

I have a brita pitcher that I refill with water. I can definitly tell the difference between my tap water and the one from the fridge (brita). It's just my way of getting the benefit of a faucet attachment without the cost.
