Tubes in ears, anyone ?

Posted by notfred on August 24, 2006, at 19:57:19

I am now on my fifth ear infection since Jan. Saw my allergist today and he wants me to consult an ENT about tubes. One of the past infections was quite major. The doc said I have a scar from it.
My allergies are causing the tube between the ear
and throat to swell and close, my doc thinks.

So I am back on the cortisone/antibotic cocktail.
I have a love/hate relationship with prednisone
and related steriods. Very effective and needed but more than 3 days on prednisone is uncomfortable. On pred I have to take more Atavin
lest I snap at people and more sleep meds to get to sleep. More than 3 days of this and I get to the "I am dancing as fast as I can" state.

All my ear problems are behind the ear drum, so tubes would seem to be a good fit. I know they do tubes in kids quite a bit, has anyone here had tubes put to treat frequent ear infections ?

One of my children had tubes. And one of my grandchildren has had tubes. It helped both. Not aware of using them in adults.

where do they put the tubes?
inside the back of the mouth?
or down the ear canal?
