Has anyone else ever heard of a person having a manic episode from Benicar - a med for hypertension?
My hubby started Benicar yesterday and today it was clear to me that he was having a manic episode. Adding Benicar (about 10 mgs) to his substantial med regimen was the only change. He was sweating in situations that were not that warm. He was very hyper, had trouble staying in his lane while driving, tremoring, argumentative, and tonight began eating slices of bread in addition to the meal. I gave him Benadryl to calm him down. Eating the bread is something he used to do when he was depressed.
This is driving me crazy. He has neurological disorders, hyperaldosteronism, liver disease and bipolar 2 - takes lamictal. I absolutely cannot tolerate this. His bp is ideal now but I don't think Benicar is a good idea. I don't know where to turn - it seems like his psychiatrist doesn't take this stuff all that seriously.

I tried Benicar and didn't like it either! I'm on Avapro now. It is similiar, but doesn't seem to have as many side effects. Both drugs are in the same family. I also found I was on too high a dose.
Benicar made me dizzy, tired, and I had numbness around my face and mouth. HATED it!
