OK I realize it's just a single study, but it's still concerning.
It postulates that semen leaking into the blood could possibly trigger an antibody response which ultimately leads to death of neurons.
Would such sperm leakage be avoided in the band-type procedure (where the vas deferens is clamped)?
I also recall a few years ago talk about a testosterone patch for men's contraception. Has anyone heard anything about this? I guess the market is not that great?
So aside from condoms and vasectomy are there any other contraception options for men?
Thanks...Peace...Saturn.

I feel like I'm getting dementia from time to time, but language skills are the only ones I retain, so I don't know. (I've had a vasectomy.)
You know that there used to be an operation supposedly to extend life that involved rerouting the semen into the body?
I don't know the name of the operation, but WB Yeats had one done on him.

Phew that all sounds scary, I must keep an eye on my husband.
I believe they are developing a contraceptive pill for men?

> I believe they are developing a contraceptive pill for men?I wouldn't hold your breath on that. Men don't get pregnant, so there is no natural infertile phase that can be artificially induced. They're finding men can be made sterile, but not without messing up all sorts of other systems simultaneously.

Well, there's a glaring error in the article, and I'd really like to know which kind of vasectomy was conducted. There are numerous different procedures.
I'm not about to lose sleep over this. The worry would be harder on you than the thing you can't do anything about, regardless.

I think vasectomy is a great form of birth control, compared with the others.
I had mine done with a local anaesthetic and if it was being done again I would organise a narcotic for myself.
Some of the nerve pathways are unaffected my the local.
I got this super-creepy sensation that went up toward my shoulder.

Hey Lar, may I ask what the error is? I was also wondering myself if the possible risk applies to all types of procedures, including the band procedure (where the vas deferens is simply clamped). Thanks...Peace...Saturn.

Since this is a rare condition, it could be that even if everyone who got the condition had had a vasectomy, it would have implications that were irrelevant to the category "men who got a vasectomy." It might, if anything, be part of a differential diagnosis once you got the disease.
Plus, you 'd need to look at why men got the vasectomy, to know if there are other, unnoticed correlations that link them together.
Any way, the doctors speculation is just speculation.
